Gluten-Free Summer Lemonade Cocktails to Make You Forget

Why? Because I like you.

This seems like the perfect way to end a week — with fizzy, lemonade drinks that your kids totally cannot drink. So put those whipper-snappers to bed, and mix up one of these delicious, naturally gluten-free, summer refreshers that will make you forget about your craptacular week. If you had one, that is. For those of you who won the lottery, had a baby, or just happen to have a ton of self-esteem, you can drink to celebrate. Everybody wins!

Anyone can take a bottle of lemonade and Bacardi and put it in a squirt bottle and call it a night, but try to fancy up your lemonade with the muddling of fruits, the hints of ginger, or some fizzy bubble action. Start with these:

Add your fave liquor, and voila!

Of course some people might say you’re drinking gluten when you throw down a liquor because there’s this whole thing this week about a gluten label that won’t include your best friend, whiskey. I’m calling bullshit on that. And you should too. Drink up!

Here are my three most favorite lemonade drinks for the boozy set:

Bourbon Raspberry Lemonade

I’ve written about this before, mostly because I love it so. Plus, it’s an easy way to impress the folks.

1 ounce bourbon
7 raspberries
3 ounces raspberry lemonade

1. Place the raspberries in the bottom of your rocks glass and muddle. Plop a giant ice cube on top. Mix bourbon and lemonade, and serve.

Ginger Lemonade Martini

I used a rocks glass here, but you can throw this all in a shaker with your ice, strain, and call it a martini if you’re fancy.

1 ounce vodka
3 ounces ginger beer
Juice of one lemon
Sugar for rim of glass

1. Take a lemon wedge and wet the rim of your rocks or martini glass. Dip glass into a plate of sugar (I like raw sugar best for the color, but use anything.)

2. Either combine ice, vodka, ginger beer, and lemon juice in martini shaker and shake until chilled, or combine all of these elements in a rocks glass and serve.

Blackberry Pomegranate Fizz

Okay, not exactly a lemonade but a refreshing summer fruity drink nonetheless.

1 ounce gin
1 ounce pomegranate juice
1 ounce blackberry juice
1 ounce sparkling water
7 blackberries

1. Muddle blackberries in the bottom of a rocks glass. Add ice and pour gin, juices, and sparkling water over ice. Mix and serve.

Have a fantabulous weekend, everybody!

  1. I’m so confoozed about the booze. Seeing as celiacs have plenty to drink about, you’d think they’d throw us a bone and tell us what’s what with a little more clarity. Distilled even. We have a bottle of Captain Morgan and a bottle of Jack that I’ve been led to believe are more-or-less not gonna kill me, at least not with grainy protein. I haven’t felt good (I mean mentally, not that it’s made me physically sick yet) about the vodka. Why do they hate me? Yeah, I need a drink.

    • I’m starting to think no one wants celiacs to have any fun. Like, ever.

    • Aega

If you’re having mental reservations about vodka, try potato vodka (should say it on the label), or if you have the cash, Ciroc (distilled from grapes). Personally I tend to shy away from the grain vodkas, but that’s mostly based on taste.

  2. those would have been perfect today – it’s been WAY to sunny for me… I really could have done with one. Delicious.

  3. I’m a rum person myself, but these sound delicious….

  15. So glad to have found a gf alternative for summer saluts! I’m not a big drinker, but it helps to have something in the arsenal that you know won’t make you feel sick after. At least, not after one drink.
    Congrats on the FP!

  16. So, vodka has gluten? Who knew?

    • Well, the distilling processes removes gluten. But some people say since some vodka (not all, not potato and other grains) begin with wheat, they can’t be gluten-free. But whatevs, other people say it is.

      • Oh. My. Dawg. (That’s “God” for non-dog bloggers.) Say it ain’t soooooooooo. I’m speechless, but not drinkless. There’s one in my hand (paw) at this moment and I’m willing to pay the price, which, by the way, hasn’t been a bad price to pay thus far. But, my new friend, I’m off to re-acquaint myself with the joys of potato vodka. And oh, what sights we’ll see…
        Thank you for your wisdom.

  23. ***PEOPLE WHO ARE SEVERELY GLUTEN INTOLERANT SHOULD AVOID ALL BOURBONS AND WHISKEYS AND MOST VODKAS*** These liquors are made from fermented grains and there is no guarantee that the distilling process filters out all proteins–even gluten. If your gluten problems aren’t lethal, you should be okayyy probably, but if they are, just avoid it, the same way you would avoid wheatgrass and other things that are in close contact with gluten yet “rumored” to be gluten-free. Opt for a potato vodka (make sure it is 100% potato, there are a lot of grain-potato mash-ups (no pun intended)), gin, rum, 100% tequila or a gluten-free herbal liquor instead.

    • that was meant to say “100% agave tequila.” Mash-ups are less likely with tequila, but if you are on a tight budget, some of the cheap tequilas aren’t 100% agave.
